Black History Month resources

Editor's note: This post was originally published in February 2018 but has been updated to include links to the most recent Journal content.

Researchers and educators can add to their reading and teaching material on black history in the U.S. South using two different bibliographical resources from the Journal:

1. “Journal of Southern History, 1935–2015: A Categorized Bibliography” contains a listing of all articles touching on African American history published in the Journal since 1935. It can be accessed as a PDF from the Contents page. (The section on African American history begins on page 8.)

2. The annual bibliography “Southern History in Periodicals” appears in every May issue. Compiling articles from a wide variety of scholarly publications, the bibliography is also categorized by field, including black history. The most recent annual bibliography was published in May 2019.
